The Lactation Coverage Gap ·
The Lactation Coverage Gap is an initiative created by The Lactation Network that aims to bring accessible, expert, and recognized lactation care to all. Launched in August 2023 (Breastfeeding Awareness Month) closethelactationcoveragegap.com is an immersive website for employers, families, and allies to learn about the lactation coverage crisis and take steps toward advocating for more accessible, equitable support for all families in need of care.
In addition to the website, we created a paid and organic ad campaign, collaborated with influencers, designed custom Instagram stickers, and made downloadable assets and social posts unique to each audience. Covered by articles and press releases in Motherly, Fierce Healthcare, and Business Wire.

Caption: During #BreastfeedingAwarenessMonth, we want to call attention to a vital, missing component of lactation care—coverage. Insurance-covered lactation support is legally mandated by the Affordable Care Act, yet parents are regularly denied this critical care. We say enough is enough; we see your struggle, and we are doing something about it. Join us as we advocate to #CloseTheLactationCoverageGap and sign the petition through the link in our bio.
Caption: Insurance-covered lactation care is legally mandated by the Affordable Care Act—period. Yet parents are struggling to feed their babies and are regularly denied this critical care. Your voice is the catalyst families need to get the care they deserve. When we raise our voices in unison, we can’t be ignored—and we need everyone’s help to advocate for accessible, equitable lactation care for all. Sign your name on our petition through the link in our bio in support of accessible, expert, recognized lactation care, and join us in ensuring health plans adequately deliver the lactation care families rightfully deserve.

Caption: There is an illusion of lactation coverage. Although many health plans claim to provide lactation care, we know that the families they claim to cover are often confronted with a different, difficult reality. We are looking to #CloseTheLactationCoverageGap by advocating for families in conversations directly with health plans and in legislative efforts on Capitol Hill. When we raise our voice in unison, we can’t be ignored—make your voice heard and sign the petition in our bio.
